Damnoen Saduak Floating Market, Ratchaburi province

                Damnoen Saduak Floating Market is the very famous tourist attractions of Ratchaburi province, located approximately 80 km. away from Bangkok.  In 1966, King Rama IV issued order to dig Damnoen Saduak Canal with distance of 32 km. to connect Mae Klong River and Bang Nokkaew and Ta Chean River at Bang Yang Water Gate, and there were numerous branch canals allowing villagers in Ratchaburi, Samut Songkhram and Samut Sakhon provinces to be able to connect by water routes.

                Damnoen Saduak Floating Market has become well-known to people in the world as the tourist attraction for the firs time in 1967 as the image of a floating market full of rowing boats containing goods which are necessary for living.  Merchants wear dark-colored dresses like farmers, wear farmer’s hats made from palm leaves, and trade their goods to other merchants as previously this floating market was a main route.  Currently, Damnoen Saduak Floating Market starts trading goods since the dawn until 11.00 a.m.

                Damnoen Saduak Floating Market is considered a floating market which is originated for hundreds years.  It is the floating market which consists of actual things; e.g. actual goods good from merchants who bring from their orchards.  It’s the last culture that should not be missed at all.

                From Bangkok, Damnoen Saduak Floating Market can be reached by 2 routes.

                1. Go along Phetchakasem Road (Highway No.4) passing Bang Khae, Suan Sam Phran, Nakhon Chaisri, Nakhon Pathom, passing km. 83 for some distances.  You’ll reach Bang Phae Intersection.  Turn left to go along Highway No.325 for 25 km. and turn right for 1 km.

                2. Go along Thonburi – Pak Thor Route (Highway No.34) for 63 km.  Turn right to enter Highway No.326 passing Samut Songkhram City.  Enter Provincial Highway No.325 for 12 km. to access to the floating market which is located before Thararat Bridge for 200 m. and turn left for 1 km.

                For city bus, there are air-conditioned buses provided from Bangkok – Damnoen Saduak Route which departs from Southern Route on Borom Ratcha Chonnani Road.  The first bus departs on 5.00 a.m. in the morning and arrives at Damnoen Saduak Floating Market entrance taking approximately 2 hours.  Then, take minibus to Damnoen Saduak Floating Market for another 1 km.  Inquire Southern Route, contact Tel. 02-4351199, 02-4351200.
