In Chiang Mai, it is called the land where many people dream of traveling there once in their life. Therefore, this trip, I decided to ask Editor Tick to fly to this City of Lanna, and I chose to travel here during holiday as well because what I really want to experience the most is roaming on the Walking Street, the street of happiness where those who have ever visited here must say the same, "Really Happy."

The history of this Walking Street is one of the activities which promote Chiang Mai's economy and tourism. Closing the street on Sunday night as a walking street for shopping has been organized continually for 8 years. The origin of this Walking Street started from the initiative created by Pol. Lt. Col. Thaksin Shinawatra, former prime minister, who had an opportunity to see the example of walking street from foreign countries. He thought Thailand should have as well because of the potential to organize the activity like this Thailand had. Firstly, he decided to start organizing the walking street in Bangkok, and it appeared that the result was pleasing and impressive. He decided to appoint it as the primary policy of each province to arrange a walking street in each province.

"Chiang Mai" is the first province which has organized the official walking street because of its preparedness in many aspects. The province decided to arrange it on Thapae Road which is very well-known among both Thai and foreign tourists. Its purpose is to promote Chiang Mai's tourism, allow people to exercise by walking and strolling, promote distributing OTOP (One Tambon One Product) local products in Chiang Mai, and earn income for the community.

As the result of organizing the walking street on Thapae Road, it was successful. The province has delivered this project to Chiang Mai City Municipality to succeed the project and so on. Then, there were road width expansion on Phra Pok Khlao Road and Ratchadamnoen Road. Previously, Thapae Road was able to support approximately 600-800 sellers. This new location is able to support up to 4,000 sellers that can cause a great number of income to sellers as the circulating money in the walking street each week only on Sunday is approximately 20 - 30 million Baht. There are approximately 20,000 – 30,000 buyers, sellers and tourists who participate in the project (this only on Sunday). Moreover, if it coincides with festival times; such as Loy Krathong Festival or Songkran Festival, the number of participants will be multiplier. This is the largest walking street in Thailand, and it is also the biggest tourist attractions in Thailand as well.
